Airports Argentina has announced an investment of $6.5 million to modernize the international terminal in Puerto Iguazú in two phases. The project includes new lounges, jet bridges, migration and customs facilities, plus 7,000 m² of operational space to strengthen international connectivity with Misiones.
The project arises as a tactical response by Airports Argentina to the growing demand from one of the continent's most important tourist hubs and is designed to be executed in two phases, ensuring operational continuity (without interrupting flights).
A 3,000 m² exclusive area will be developed in the Departures (Boarding) sector, including the installation of two new jet bridges and an increase in immigration control posts, eliminating bottlenecks during peak hours. It will also feature 4,000 m² in the Arrivals sector, focusing on expanding the baggage claim area, vital for international flights where the baggage load factor is typically higher.
This infrastructure adds to the terminal's current base, which today boasts 18,000 m², a state-of-the-art baggage handling system (BHS), 21 check-in counters, and a consolidated commercial offering.
This project was made possible by the necessary synergy between the public sector and the private operator. Hugo Passalacqua, Governor of Misiones Province, analyzed the socio-economic impact of the work, emphasizing that "this was a very small airport, and today we find ourselves with this marvel that is the product of the effort of Airports Argentina, it is a huge investment. More flights mean a better quality of life for the people of Misiones".
For his part, Daniel Ketchibachian, CEO of Airports Argentina [AA2000], highlighted that they are "committed to carrying out all the necessary infrastructure works to provide airlines and passengers with the best services and well-being".
